Longcreek Drive – Columbia, SC: Personal Blog
I had just left an apartment complex on Longcreek Drive. The customer did not supply their building number nor apartment number. I attempted to call the customer 3 times, but on each call their phone gave an error message saying that calls could not be received at this time. I contacted my home store with this information: their conclusion was that my phone was not in error, and I should return to the restaurant.
When I became upon the red light turning from Longcreek Dr. to Broad River Rd., I stopped and looked both ways as is necessary by state law. After turning onto the road, the driver behind me laid on the horn. I braked and looked, wondering if I was about to crash into a car or pedestrian, but I was not; therefore, I kept going. The individual continued to honk, despite me continuing the turn and driving as normal, therefore I rolled down my window and gave them the ol’ THUMBS DOWN!
This proved too much for the motorist. They then proceeded to perform a maneuver which I assumed was to pass me, but instead they had rolled down their passenger window and was yelling at me to roll down my own window. Instead of doing that, I tried to shake them by modifying my speed. Indeed, they kept modifying their own speed to keep pace with me so they could yell through their own window.
At the point where they were merging lanes to turn off Broad River, I once again rolled down my window and expressed disappointment by giving the ol’ thumbs down. This appeared to severely piss them off, but I was able to speed along the boulevard and escape their wrath. A classic example of “everyone used to love the pizza man…now not everyone loves the pizza man,” this is the third such incident of road rage I have experienced against me because I did not want to get hit by another motorist.
South Carolina drivers: fear me. I look both ways before crossing the road when the light turns green (I timed it, I unbrake immediately and am accelerating in about 1 second), I follow traffic laws and posted signage, and I slow down when pedestrians are in the middle of the road, especially when they are in the oncoming lane (you want me to hit them or something???). No amount of honking will stop me from driving safely. Neither will false deliveries to Longcreek with Glovertown phone numbers (my ex-friends are definitely not toxic) dissuade me. I am a delivery driver, hear me provide for my community!
